Tex-Mex

Alex from Ecstasy

Howdy, ya'll!
Greetings from the best state of 'em all - the Lone Star Texas, home of liberty, opportunity, and rich farmers, who buy photos with closed eyes in them. Carnival Ecstasy, the new home of Janint and myself, is one of the money-making ships of the Carnival fleet. Not the least because of the nature of our guests here. They are very pleasant, good-natured country folk, who don't get photographed much. They also have plentiful cash in their pockets, so they buy A LOT of pictures, giving us bi-weekly bonuses ))

The first few days on board felt very strange for us. The ship had just returned from dry dock, and most of the crew were new here. No one knew anyone, people in the hallways looked alienated, and crew bar dynamics were subdued. Janint was kind of depressed, actually. The atmosphere is a bit warmer now, as photo team members got a sense of each other's personalities and settled into a routine. Galveston-Progresso-Cozumel. Galveston-Cozumel-Progresso. Galveston-Cozumel-Galveston. 5-5-4. 5-5-4. You know what you are supposed to do, you do it with speed and quality, and then enjoy your free time.

I have to agree with Jimmy, though. I was pretty surprised with the quality of photograghs of many *senior members of the photo team. They make a lot of very obvious mistakes. Bad lighting, shadows on faces, ugly group shots. And the only reason they can shoot the dining room in 10 minutes is because they rush through it without asking anybody, skipping whole tables!!! Take that, Farai!

I miss you, people. We sure had some fun moments together. Stay in touch, and special spasibo to Jimmy for providing the means for it.

Peace & Love
Alex

New ship, old destinations

Ferenc from Miracle

Starting october 27th, we make a special, secret 8 days cruise with Miracle to Fort Lauderdale-Nassau-Half Moon Key- Key West-Cozumel-Fort Lauderdale. Maybe someone will be at the same port with us. I'll post the dates tomorrow.
The destinations are beautiful. I'll post some pictures later on.
The job pretty good so far. We have a pretty good team and a good boss (by the way, she's hungarian, too :) ) I worked in the gallery a lot and not just as a security guard like on Imagination :), I shot all 3 gangways (actually i just stopped the people for the photo),  and of course formal night (we have 2 formal nights, 2nd and 7th day), casual night as well.  On an 8 day cruise we shot only 4 dinner. I love that.
I have t go now, but i'll come back with more info.
Take care, guys.

Kalman from Fascination/Imagination!

Guess what! Today I've visited our Alma Mater, Imagination! We are in Nassau and we're docking next to each other. Bojana and the guys were shooting gangway when I said hello to them. :DD. Bojana works her ass out, she's hardly having any sleep she said. Oh, and I met Farai as well!!! :)))

Elation

Zsolt from Elation

Yes guys, you read it right!I'm on the fucking Carnival Elation! After one night in San Diego the next morning the office called me that I should go to the Elation for one week, and on the 26th October I have to go to Spirit.Kalman, here on this ship is the same,I found a lot of over exposed, fucking shit pictures,we made better pictures during our college. The team is okay, but they don't really care about me because I'm "just" a trainee and I'm just here for one week. The ship is almost the same,I know everything where it is,but I don't like it...The itinerary is really boring, but at least the manager here is a nice guy,I can talk almost about everything with him,he is the only person who cares about me!99% that I'll go to Spirit, but 1% that I'll stay here, and actually I don't want to!!
Hope everybody is doing fine, and I'll pass this week very quick.Next time I'll write I hope it will be from the Spirit :P :)!!
Take care everybody!!

First Impressions

Kalman from Nassau

First of all: I miss you guys! To sum up my first three days onboard the lovely Carnival Fascination – the first day was disturbing, the second was depressing and the third was… well, I’ve just finished the third one and I’m feeling happy, so it couldn’t be that bad. I shot the Halloween Deck Party tonight, maybe that’s why I still have the groove. ;)

About the first days: Folks, I was so lost... Of course not in the meaning of not finding my way through, since am on a same class boat. And this similarity just made that kinda homesick that I feel towards the Carnival Fucking Imagination even worst. I can find everything here where it should be, I know where to go when I’m hungry, but I also know that none of you will be there to pick up their heads when I enter. :( It feels like stepping into your former apartment where a new family lives now. They changed the furniture and there’re new curtains too but the colors of the walls are still the same and in fragments you still find the smell of your home.
I don’t know whether is better for those of us who got onto a ship of another class, or for those who remained on a Fantasy-class vessel. You tell me.
So, these were the first days like, I felt alone. I’m not part of our former team anymore, yet not part of my new one either. I know it’s just a matter of days but still it’s hard right now.

Today was somewhat different. We were in Nassau – huge storm hat the islands, without rain but with heavy blasts of wind – and in the afternoon I shot Empress stbd side (the place I hate the most). Prior to shooting I browsed through the archived pictures of the other photographers at that backdrop I was to shoot (and this is the point when I suddenly started to feel a lot better): maaan, I’ve never seen so many fucked up pictures in a bunch, not even in the college! :) If that’s how they’re doing here, and still Fascination is the top1 ship in the entire fleet regarding to Photo Dept. revenues, then I’ll be a star here. ;)))

So guys, relax and sit back: we were truly well trained and we’re ready to face anything.
Ask Dimitrijs! :D

San Diego

Zsolt from San Diego

Hy guys! You couldn't even imagine what happened to me today.I missed my ship because my plane from San Francisco was an hour and a half late because of the weather.I had to call the CCL office what to do,cause I arrived in San Diego at 4:15pm and the Spirit left at 4pm.But luckily the company offered me a room in the Holiday Inn here, and I have to stay here 8days :).The hotel is really good,I've got a plasma tv in my room,it is a smoking room so I feel good here.Tomorrow I have to call the office again to make it sure for how long I have to stay here, but at least I have free days,so I can discover the beautiful San Diego! The city is way more different than Miami, the air is fresh probably because of the Pacific Ocean.I'm looking forward to enjoy my days here.I hope everybody reached their ships, not like me :P!
See you later!

Hi Everyone!

Jimmy, thanks for setting up this blog! I hope everyone is gonna use it and abuse it :)

I'm still in the hotel in Miami waiting for my transfer. A bus will pick me up (and about 12 other persons) tomorrow morning around 10:30 AM and drive up to Fort Lauderdale where the Miracle is waiting for me to get onboard. And it's good because i don't have to wake up in the early morning to get ready for the ride.

First time since i left home, i'm glad i packed some warm cloths. It was so windy and cold this morning, I had to dug up my sweater from the bottom my suitcase.

Probably i'm the only one in the hotel from the "class" for now. It's good to have 2 days off in a row :)

That's it for now. I'll be back with more words when i'm on Miracle.

Take care guys and girls!
